Short bio

Hamid Laga is an Assistant Professor at the Global Edge Institute of Tokyo Institute of Technology. From April 2006 to September 2006 he was a JSPS postdoctoral fellow at the Image Processing Laboratory (Prof. Kunihiro Chihara) of Nara Institute of Science and Technology (NAIST). He received his PhD and M.S degrees in March 2006 and March 2003, respectively, from the Computer Science Dept. of Tokyo Institute of Technology. His research interests include image processing, computer vision, pattern recognition, shape analysis, multimedia information retrieval, computer graphics, digital geometry processing, and high performance computing for vision and graphics.


Awards

  • International CG Paper Grand Prix Award (March 2008), the Society of Art and Science Japan.

  • Best Paper Award at the 23rd NICOGRAPH Paper Contest (Nov. 2007), for the paper: gSupervised Learning of Salient 2D Views of 3D Models".

  • Best Paper Award at the IEEE Int. Conference on Shape Modeling and Applications SMI2006 (June 2006) for the paper "Spherical Wavelet Descriptors for Content]based 3D Model Retrieval".

  • Japanese Government Scholarship for graduate studies (April 2000 - March 2006).
