Global Edge Institute was established in 2006 to carry out the tenure-track program with a support from the Special Coordination Funds for Promoting Science and Technology "Promotion of Environmental Improvement for Independence of Young Researchers".
The support by this MEXT project terminates in AY 2010, but the institute is operational to the end of the tenure-track period of all the researchers (until AY 2014). Tokyo Tech has started a new initiative in AY 2011 for continuing the tenure-track system.
